In their article, William S. Murray and Robert Antonellis discuss the development of the Chinese space program and its effect on US policy. They point out that Chinese manned missions serve both military and scientific purposes and despite its insistence on peace in space, China continues to develop military technology that could threaten US satellites. They argue that this is most likely a defensive measure, thought the US should be wary. They also bring up factors like official leaks of Chinese astronauts as uncharacteristic shows of confidence which demonstrate an unexpected level of success for the program.
