In the article, "China's Space Ambitions", Phillip Saunders argues that China's goals of improving its space technology directly oppose American policy in space. He writes that, as a nation wholly dependent on satellite technology, the US would be the most vulnerable in any confrontation with developing countries in space. Thus, in coming years, tensions between China and the US could mount, leading to a space race and possibly military conflict.
